Josh Martin is an Executive Producer, Director, Showrunner and Network Executive with extensive experience across Live Television, Entertainment, Factual, Food and Lifestyle programming.
As Commissioning Editor at SBS, Josh oversaw and produced hundreds of hours of content each year. Entertainment shows include Australia’s Biggest Singalong, Celebrity Mastermind, Mastermind, Celebrity Mastermind, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, and the Eurovision Song Contest and associated programming including Eurovision: Australia Decides. In 2019, Josh was named Head of Delegation for Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Factual Entertainment shows include such titles as Child Genius, Dr Michael Mosely’s Reset, Going Places with Ernie Dingo and more. Food programs include Gourmet Farmer, A Girls Guide to Hunting, Fishing and Wild Cooking, Silvia Colloca’s Cook Like an Italian, Asia Unplated with Diana Chan, Food Safari, Destination Flavour, The Chefs Line and many others. Josh created and commissioned the 200 episode The Cook Up with Adam Liaw.
Josh graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Drama) from QUT in the mid-nineties and since then has worked for all the major Australian networks as well as many independent production companies. In 2001, Josh was employed as one of the founding producers/presenters of Fly TV – an Australian-first digital channel for the ABC (now known as ABC TV Plus). He produced and presented many shows here including a technology show, a sci-fi show and many music shows, as well as hosting his own countdown show.
Between 2003-2006, Josh worked as a producer for ABC TV on shows such as Strictly Dancing (a competition dance show hosted by Paul McDermott), Mondo Thingo (a pop-culture wrap hosted by Amanda Keller) and a collection of History of Triple J documentaries. Josh also was the producer/director of the pilot series of J-TV, a weekly show based around Triple J.
Between 2006-2008, Josh was appointed Supervising Producer of Music Channels at XYZ Entertainment, overseeing all production at Channel [V], Max and Country Music Channel. This included such shows as the daily What U Want music show, the annual Big Day Out broadcasts, The ARIA Red Carpet Shows and the international broadcast of Live Earth Australia. Josh also oversaw a suite of other programming including Max Masters (music biography documentaries), game show Cash Cab and reality show Blog Party.
2008-2011 saw Josh briefly work for NineMSN as a consulting producer for their video department, developing up new video concepts to leverage a suite of brands, before beginning work as producer on the long running travel show Getaway at Channel 9. Josh was also the Series Producer of the observational documentary series Young Doctors for Channel 9.
From 2011 onwards Josh’s love of travel and food saw him work as a producer and director on many series including Island Feast with Peter Kuruvita (SBS), Shane Delia’s Spice Journey S1-3 (SBS), The Great Outdoors (Channel 7), Mexican Fiesta with Peter Kuruvita (SBS), Gourmet Farmer Afloat (SBS)and Shelfie with Dan Hong (ABC). He also produced and co-directed the 3-part documentary series For the Love of Meat with Matthew Evans (SBS).
At Essential Media and Entertainment, Josh was also the Executive Producer of Lifestyle, overseeing both Australian and US lifestyle productions.
